Claire MacDonald - Legal Studies
Claire is a third-year student studying Legal Studies with a minor in
Human Rights. While living in Chicago, Claire spent countless hours
volunteering at a local homeless shelter and interacting with the low
income residents of the city. There, she noticed a common theme among
the people she talked to - their inability to access affordable and
high-quality health care severely impacted their ability to work and
support themselves financially. After returning to Michigan, she
dedicated herself to the study of health care laws and policies and
hopes to continue these passions into law school. When Claire isn’t
studying, you can find her at DeVos Hall, supporting and volunteering
for the Grand Rapids Symphony, where she spent two years as a
development intern. She also spends her time playing various
instruments, trying to cook, and working on creative writing pieces.
One thing Claire values and encourages more than anything else is
taking the time and opportunity to participate in our government by voting.
