Steven Henley - Political Science and Economics
Steven Henley—a senior—comes from the small town of Hopkins, MI.
Steven is seeking a degree in Political Science and Economics at Grand
Valley, which he will use as a foundation as he prepares to attend law
school, earning his J.D. He hopes to one-day practice law and devote
himself to public service.
Steven is the current financial officer within the GVSU Law
Society and former president of the organization. For over a year,
Steven has volunteered with the Legal Assistance Center located in the
Kent County Courthouse. In the past, Steven has served on the Student
Senate body for three semesters, in the committees of External
Relations and Educational Affairs. Steven is also a part of the Phi
Sigma Alpha political science national honors fraternity, and Alpha
Sigma Lambda honors and volunteer fraternity.
This past summer, Steven traveled to Limpopo, South Africa as an
independent initiative with the CLA. He was able to participate in
wildlife research and habitat restoration at a local game reserve.
There, he refined his understanding of leadership and was reminded of
staying conscientious when making decisions.
Steven is a recipient of the Bretzlaff Foundation Scholarship, the
Reifel Economics Scholarship, and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
Before Grand Valley, Steven earned the Rank of Eagle Scout and
participated as a teen leader in his local 4-H Club. Steven enjoys
sports, cooking, exercising, animals, and the outdoors. He is grateful
for the opportunity to be a fellow of the Cook Leadership Academy and
