Anna Szalay - Public and Nonprofit Administration
Anna Szalay grew up in Dearborn, MI, a suburb of Detroit, but spent
much of her childhood exploring the vast forests and clear waters in
Northern Michigan. Curiosity and a desire to learn about new places
rooted itself deep within Anna after hours spent reading National
Geographic stories written by Change-makers and Explorers. Anna’s love
for new places and the environment followed her to Grand Valley State
University and then later to Lüneburg, Germany where she studied for a
semester in 2017.
Today, Anna finds herself busy preparing students to vote in the
Midterm Election through her job in the Office of Student Life, while
also educating students about waste sorting and low impact lifestyles
as the Communications Intern in the Office of Sustainability. She is
also thrilled to serve as the Vice President of Finance for Grand
Valley’s largest student-lead organization, Alternative Breaks.
Working for Grand Valley and being engaged in student organizations,
has allowed Anna to share her passions for civic engagement,
sustainability, and community service with others.
In the future, Anna foresees teaching English abroad and doing A
LOT of traveling. Above all else in life, she strives to hold
integrity and foster an inclusive atmosphere for others. As Anna
enters her final year at GVSU, she is working hard to make her future
objectives and adventures become a reality.
