NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION 2023-2024
Welcome to Grand Valley State University!
We are excited to welcome new faculty this coming Fall (2023)! We are still in the planning process for this event so check this page regularly as we'll update it frequently and as information becomes available. Should circumstances require we move this event to a virtual format, we are prepared to do that but remain hopeful that we can gather together in-person this coming August.
Orientation will focus on engaging new faculty in a collaborative learning experience focused squarely on student success, community building, and exploration or campus resources for both faculty and news students.
- Highlight critical information about the university, guiding new faculty to construct for themselves a greater understanding of (a) the mission, vision, and values of Grand Valley State University, (b) what is meant by student success, and (c) the hallmarks of a successful new faculty experience
- Model learner-centered teaching strategies (including interactive discussions, experiential learning, case studies, special topic choices)
- Foster a sense of community and build relationships among new faculty
- Motivate new faculty to see themselves contributing to a supportive, collaborative campus community
We look forward to meeting and engaging with you soon!

Fall 2023 New Faculty Orientation
We are excited to welcome new adjunct faculty joining GVSU for the Fall 2023 semester!
Because our adjunct faculty have historically appreciated flexibility in attending orientation, we offer a few options from which to choose. We will be hosting live (synchronous) virtual sessions via Zoom on both August 23, 2023 and September 7, 2023 from 5:30pm-7:30pm—new adjunct faculty can attend whichever of these dates works best for them. Additionally, should neither of these dates/times work for your schedule, we also offer a completely asynchronous and self-paced orientation program—available starting August 14, 2023.
New faculty are invited to attend whichever one session is most convenient for them.
The synchronous sessions on August 23 and September 7 will provide:
- Hands-on support with GVSU technology including Blackboard, banner, and accessing your GVSU network login
- An opportunity to engage with new and existing faculty
- Time for your questions to be asked and answered
NOTE: you must register for orientation in order to be sent the Zooms for the August 23 and September sessions or the link to access the online orientation modules.
