LAKERS TOGETHER: Grand Valley is preparing for successful learning experiences when classes resume on Aug. 31. Learn more about the plan for fall in this handbook.
Dear future officer,
Welcome to the Grand Valley State Department of Public Safety. Established in 1969 we serve as the primary law enforcement agency for Grand Valley State University serving the Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses.
We strive to employ a staff of officers seeking to maintain a safe and secure environment to help aid in the education experience and success of our students. We value integrity, community, inclusiveness, and excellence in our pursuit of doing our best. If you share these values, we want you to consider joining our team.
We offer a career opportunity in a community that is ever changing, where two days are rarely the same. Officers are exposed to a variety of calls for service in a unique environment. Our focus on community engagement and campus partnerships allows officers to benefit from personal interactions. We are committed to a strong training program to support the development and safety of our officers.
We offer a variety of advancement and specialization options within the ranks of our police department. The future of our department is exciting as we look to expand our presence and engagement on the ever growing Grand Rapids campus. We are always looking into progressive policing options to find the best ways to interact, engage, and improve our department effectiveness.
If you wish to explore working for a challenging, yet rewarding department, I look forward to welcoming you to a new career with the GVSU Police Department.
