Reflections on GVSU Engagement: President Emeritus Lubbers with Civic, Global and Inclusive Teaching Exhibition

Global with stick people surrounding it

Date and Time

Tuesday, September 18, 2018 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Description

Faculty, staff and students are invited to join us September 18 as we welcome back President Emeritus Arend D. Lubbers to reflect with us on the GVSU roots of civic engagement.  The conversation will be followed by faculty-led breakout sessions highlighting exemplars of teaching for civic, global and inclusive learning.

Educating for citizenship requires a contemporary and comprehensive framework in which democratic values including equality and diversity are viewed in the context of U.S. and global interdependence.

Efforts to explore and reclaim a civic mission at GVSU have taken many forms in a variety of places across the GVSU campus.  This event aims to explore the roots of civic engagement at GVSU alongside faculty exemplars in civic learning, global learning and inclusion.  This includes:

  • Teaching to prepare citizens for public engagement
  • Teaching for global contextual participation
  • Teaching and learning that is relevant and accessible to all

LIB 100 Approved.
