Argentina, 2006-07
My year in Argentina, funded through the Padnos Center, completely changed my life! After finishing my BA in Spanish from GVSU, I went on to serve in the Peace Corps for 3 years in Panama. After my time in Panama, I earned a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Indiana University. I truly believe that I would never have joined the Peace Corps without the support from the Padnos Center. My time abroad gave me more confidence, linguistic ability, and helped my understand the complex issues that face Latin American today. In addition to my MA in Latin American Studies, I also received a Master of Library Science. While at Indiana University, I had the opportunity to teach Spanish at IU as part of a generous funding package to cover my tuition. I currently work for the Kent District Library in Kent City, MI. There is large migrant population in the area and I am able to work with Latino youth in various capacities.
