Thriving in Transition

Date and Time

Wednesday, February 7, 2018 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Description

Student success efforts have undergone a paradigm shift grounded in thriving research. In the thriving conceptual framework, the conversation focuses on student characteristics both amenable to change and that promote high levels of academic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal performance in the college environment. Using this framework, Dr. Laurie Schreiner will help us examine transitions, particularly for sophomore, transfer, underrepresented, and marginalized students.

Learning Outcomes...
Participants will...

  • Recognize various conditions through which thriving can occur.
  • Understand and define the various transitions that students face while attending college, with particular attention to the challenges and the coping skills involved in each transition.
  • Identify specific applications and interventions targeted towards marginalized and under-represented students, sophomores and transfer students.
  • Consider systemic barriers that may inhibit thriving at Grand Valley State University.

No registration necessary.
