NOTE:

The northern Michigan students will be required to travel to the Grand Rapids Health Campus up to three times during the program.  Each trip, from site-to-site, is approximately 280 miles. Four personal vehicles (3 students per vehicle) will be reimbursed for the cost of travel (at current federal gas reimbursement rates).

During the clinical phase of the program, students are responsible for lodging and travel costs.  Costs vary throughout program phases depending on the location of assigned clinical rotations.

AAPA/MAPA Dues:  This one-time fee for memberships to both AAPA and MAPA may be required for GVSU funding to attended conferences.

Graduate Assistantships

There are a limited number of graduate assistantships in the University. They are part-time, paid work experiences for graduates in their field of study, which allows them to expand and/or apply their discipline knowledge and skills under supervision. Tuition is also paid based on requirements of number of hours worked and course credits being taken per semester.

Physician Assistant Scholarships

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) currently has 6 scholarships available to aid in tuition for students in the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program.  For further information about scholarships available through GVSU and external scholarships visit www.gvsu.edu/myscholarships.


Stephanie Urbanawiz Physician Assistant Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in the Physician Assistant Studies Program who are interested in pursuing careers in oncology or primary care.  Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, be a resident of Michigan, completed 12 credit hours or more in the PAS Program, and currently in the didactic phase of the PAS Program.

Award: Total $1,500 ($750 Distributed in the Fall and Winter semesters)

Christos and Joan Panopoulos Physician Assistant Studies Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in the Physician Assistant Studies program during their year-long clinical phase.  Applicants must have a cumulative PAS GPA of 3.5 or greater and meet the criteria to progress to the clinical phase of the PAS Program.  Preference will be given to nontraditional students and financial need may be considered via completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  One PAS scholarship is awarded yearly.

Steven and Kathryn ’83 Bandstra Clinical Placement Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students with demonstrated financial need determined by the FAFSA, who have clinical placement sites outside of urban areas in Western and Northern Michigan.   Two PAS students will be awarded the scholarship prior to entering the clinical phase of the PAS program.  Recipients of the Steven and Kathryn ’83 Bandstra Health Sciences Scholarship are ineligible. 

Award: Total $2,000 ($1,000 Distributed in the Fall and Winter semesters)

Steven and Kathryn ’83 Bandstra Health Sciences Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students with financial need determined by FAFSA who demonstrate strong character and work towards their profession through community service and extra-curricular activities.  Preference is given to students with interest in senior care. Applicants must be admitted to the PAS program and may apply at any stage of their PAS academic career, including  prior to matriculation in the PAS program. Students may reapply yearly.  Three PAS applicants are awarded the scholarship yearly. 

Award: Total $5,000 ($2,500 Distributed in the Fall and Winter semesters)

Budden Family Pathway Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to help widen the pathway to graduation for students from middle income families. This scholarship is open to female students in the College of Health Professions or Kirkhof College of Nursing that have a cumulative GPA above a 3.0.  PAS applicants must be admitted to the PAS program and may apply at any stage of their PAS academic career, including prior to matriculation in the PAS program.  Students may reapply yearly.  One scholarship is awarded yearly.

James R. Moyer Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to support students pursuing careers to assist the ageing population with recovery from disease and injuries, and the expansion of careers which keep older Americans in their homes. To qualify students must: be accepted for or currently enrolled at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), be an undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student enrolled full time, must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress, be enrolled in a major or degree program that encompasses geriatric care. Financial need is required and will be demonstrated by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which includes pathway (middle income) students. This scholarship may be renewed without reapplication provided the student continues to meet the qualifications and based on availability of funding.  This scholarship may be awarded to an individual for a maximum of three (3) academic years.
