Kara McKinley
Kara is a Junior at Grand Valley State University, studying
Biochemistry, with the ambition to attend medical school after
graduating. As a physician, Kara wants to use her role to be an
involved and influential member of her community. Kara values service
and giving back to others, as she volunteers with local organizations
such as MomsBloom, Dégagé Ministries Open Door Women's Shelter, and
Metro Health Hospital. Kara grew up in a small town in Northern
Michigan. Her small community has provided her with important values
such as service, hospitality, communication, and kindness. Kara is a
first-year Fellow Candidate and is very excited to develop her
leadership skills so that she can become a leader in her own
community. Kara is also an involved member of her GVSU community.
Along with CLA, she serves on the CLAS Dean's Student Advisory
Committee, volunteers her time with GVSU K-12 Connect as a tutor for
math and science, and researches questions about the Nature of Science
with a fellow professor. In her free time, Kara enjoys spending time
with her family, she is an avid snow skier, and she loves spending
time on Lake Huron boating, waterskiing, and wake surfing.
