PUBLIC NOTICE - CALEA ACCREDITATION

The Grand Valley Police Department (GVPD) is scheduled for an assessment as part of a program to achieve initial accreditation in Basic Law Enforcement Accreditation, by verifying it meets professional standards. GVPD is seeking to be the first university police department in Michigan to achieve Basic Law Enforcement Accreditation through CALEA.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: 

  • policies and procedures
  • administration
  • operations, and
  • support services.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session held virtually at 4 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2022. Persons interested in addressing the CALEA assessors during the forum should register in advance by emailing Sergeant Brian Hedberg at [email protected].

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (616) 331-3255, between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022. Comments will be taken by the assessment team.

Telephone comments as well as comments at the public information session are limited to five minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at GVPD headquarters by contacting Sergeant Brian Hedberg at (616) 331-6896, or email at [email protected].
