1. Student Success and Registration Information

The 2023 Spring/Summer schedule of classes is now available to view in Banner. The Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 schedules will be viewable on March 1. Students will also receive an email from the Registrar with their assigned registration date. The full registration schedule is now available and outlines the specific registration dates based on credits completed and in progress.

As students prepare for the opening of the registration process, we wanted to direct faculty attention to the CLAS Faculty Advising Repository. This is a handy “one stop” advising resource. Another helpful resource is the CLAS Academic Advising Center where you can access curriculum guides for all CLAS majors and minors for all active catalog years. Registration begins on Monday, March 21.

As a reminder, the student Guest Application process has changed. Previously, students used one uniform guest application to apply to any Michigan school. The new process requires that students who wish to attend elsewhere during the spring/summer semester use the application specific to the institution they plan to attend. Please refer students to the website for the transfer school for assistance. Students can search for schools that offer specific courses accepted by GVSU by using the Michigan Transfer Network and selecting the “Transfer Your Courses” option.

To assist in advising your students, myPath continues to be a great resource. It provides a comprehensive overview of the courses completed or in progress, as well as the requirements remaining for degree completion. Live links to the course offerings are imbedded in the document and there is an academic planner function that allows students to build a potential schedule for the upcoming year.

To access a list of your current assigned advisees, please use the Navigate platform. This will provide you with a list of students who are currently attending GVSU and are assigned to you. It allows easy access to their academic records, a link to myPath and the ability to easily communicate with your students.

Registration Assistance from the CLAS Academic Advising Center: Student assistants will be available to help students use Banner and register for classes. No academic advising will be provided – these sessions are intended for the technical registration of classes. Students will be instructed to bring the academic plan developed in consultation with their advisor. All sessions will be held in C-1-130 MAK and the sessions are scheduled for:

Thursday, March 30th: 8am-11am; 1pm-4pm
Friday March 31st: 1pm – 3pm
Monday April 3rd: 8am – 11 am; 1pm – 4pm
Tuesday April 4th: 1pm – 4pm
Wednesday April 5th: 8am – 12pm; 1pm – 4pm

If you have any questions regarding registration for the 2023/2024 academic year, please contact AD Schaner at [email protected]

4. Voting for CLAS & University Committees opens this Friday, 2/17, at noon

Voting will begin on Friday, February 17, at noon, and run through Friday, February 24, at noon.

CLAS uses approval voting. Faculty vote for everyone they believe can “do the job” of the committee. If there are five candidates for two seats on a committee and all of them appear capable of embracing the work of the committee (based on their statements on the ballot), then you may vote for all five. The process is explained in more detail on the CLAS Nominations and Voting page
