1.Take our Survey About the CLAS Weekly Mailing
We want to know what you think about the CLAS Weekly email. Please share your feedback on this short survey.

2. Tutoring and Reading Center Reminders
The Tutoring and Reading Center (TRC) offers multiple forms of outreach to make it easy to share information and connect students to the tutoring resources available on our campuses.

Tutoring Referrals in Navigate
If you have students who are struggling academically, you can refer them for tutoring outreach in Navigate when you issue an alert. When an alert is issued, a member of the TRC leadership team will reach out to students to offer support and connect them to appropriate resources.

Tutoring Class Presentations
Members of the TRC leadership team are available to visit classes for a brief present information about the types of tutoring available on campus. Email Keigh-Cee Bell if interested in scheduling a visit. Tutoring class presentations are a great way to welcome students back from spring break, and they only take 5-10 minutes at the beginning or end of a class period.

Subject-Specific Tutoring Brochures
The TRC has created digital brochures for many subjects on campus that include drop-in and appointment tutoring resources. If you would like to request a brochure for a different subject area or that is course specific, please reach out to Keigh-Cee Bell.

Academic Support YouTube Video
To share an asynchronous video presentation about tutoring and academic support at GVSU, feel free to use this YouTube Video. It is a quick and easy resource to share without devoting significant class time to a presentation.

3. Course Withdrawal Deadlines
The deadline date for students to withdraw from a Winter 2023 course has been extended to Friday, March 24 at 5:00 p.m. Withdrawals after this date require significant documentation and justification.

The Late Drop process outlines the steps students would need to take to request a late withdrawal. These are approved only in truly extenuating circumstances.

Students should carefully consider multiple items before making the decision to drop a class. The Decision Tree helps walk students through this process. Always recommend that students visit the Financial Aid Office prior to dropping a course.

Complete Withdrawal
Students withdrawing from all courses during an academic term must submit an electronic complete withdrawal form and forward the form via email to the to the Registrar’s Office at [email protected]. Students do not need to obtain the signature of their faculty or professional advisor on the form. The deadline for submitting a complete withdrawal form for any semester is 5:00 p.m. on the Friday of the last week classes (April 21, 2023), prior to the start of final exams. After this date, students will need to appeal for a complete withdrawal through the Academic Review Committee.

4. Graduation Application Reminder – April, June and August Graduates
Students who anticipate an April, June or August graduation are required to submit an application for graduation online. Students who plan to attend commencement must have their application submitted by Friday, March 30 for inclusion in the commencement program. June and August graduates are invited to commence in the April ceremony. Applications are still accepted after this date, but the student’s name will not appear in the program. Questions regarding graduation audits and applications should be directed to the Records Office at [email protected].

5. Group Advising Events – CLAS Academic Advising Center
The CLAS Academic Advising Center, in collaboration with several academic units, will be offering a number of group advising events to assist students with crafting a schedule for the 2023/2024 academic year and to lift the advising hold for first year students. If students are unable to attend these sessions, please refer them to the Center to schedule an advising appointment.
