Cardio Floor

Fitness Floor Monitors

Fitness Floor Monitors are responsible for enforcing Recreation Center policies & procedures, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, providing assistance with any set up or tear down of classes, and ensuring that all users are having an enjoyable experience in a safe environment. Floor monitors oversee the Cardio Room, Selectorized Weight Room, Basketball Courts, and Free Weight Room of the Recreation Center.  

Starting Pay: $9.45/hour

Desired Qualifications: Work Study required, interest in athletics and recreation is a plus, prior experience in related position/field, general understanding of fitness equipment, excellent communication skills, self motivated, ability to work in fast paced environment.

 


Recreation Center Front Desk

Member Service Desk Representative

MUST HAVE PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT

Member Service Desk Representatives are responsible for overseeing the Front Desk of the Recreation Center. The Front Desk position is the first thing users see upon entry, and as a result, customer service and the ability to multitask are paramount.  Examples of responsibilities with this position include such things as assisting users with racquetball court reservations, completing memberships, administering equipment rentals, answering the phone, conducting point of sales with any purchases, and ensuring that all users are scanning in with valid I.D's. 

Starting Pay: $9.70/hour

Desired Qualifications: Prior work within the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management Department required, work study strongly preferred, point of sales experience, excellent communication skills, prior customer service training, the ability to multitask, self motivated, and experience answering telephones in a business environment. 

 


Kelly Family Sports Center

KTB Customer Service Representative

Kelly Turf Building Customer Service Representatives will be responsible for overseeing all day to day operations of the Kelly Family Sports Center (turf building).  A few of the duties this position will be responsible for include scanning in valid GVSU IDs, administering any equipment rentals, conducting point of sales with a cash register, and providing assistance with any needed facility set-up or tear down of events or groups.

Starting Pay: $9.70/hour

Desired Qualifications: Work Study strongly preferred, interest in athletics and recreation, prior experience in related position/field, general understanding of athletics and recreation, excellent communication skills, self motivated, ability to work alone.

Equipment Technician

Equipment Technician

Equipment Technicians are responsible for the overall care of equipment in the Recreation Center, Fieldhouse, Kelly Family Sports Center, and Outdoor Fields/Courts. Work duties include, but are not limited to, repairs and basic maintenance of equipment with complex moving parts and sophisticated electronic equipment, inspecting, lubricating and cleaning equipment, as well as repairing or reporting needed repairs.

Starting Pay: $9.70/hour

Desired Qualifications: Work Study preferred, mechanically proficient (not mandatory as you will learn as you go), reliable, able to work with limited supervision.


Pool

Lifeguard

Lifeguards are responsible for overseeing the GVSU Pool located in the Fieldhouse during all public open hours of operation as well as for any outside day groups or overnighters that reserve the space.  

Starting Pay: $10.00/hour

Desired Qualifications: Hold current certifications in Lifeguard/CPR/AED/ First Aid from the American Red Cross, 1-2 years of experience, exhibit great customer service, able to communicate with all ages, flexible schedule


Rec Center

Student Building Supervisors

MUST HAVE PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT

The Student Building Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entirety of the Fieldhouse and Recreation Center during hours of operation. SBS must be knowledgeable of all policies of the Athletics and Recreation Facilities Management operation and make decisions based on previous experience, and the mission of the facilities and their services. They assist in the oversight of other student employees in the absence of professional team staff, administer the policies and rules of the department, open and close the Fieldhouse/Rec Center, and is a general “trouble-shooter” within the facility. Those in this position are expected to meet monthly as a team and must be professional, reliable, driven, and team oriented. 

Starting Pay: $10.65

Desired Qualifications: Previous employment within the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management Department required, prior experience in a supervisory/management role, point of sales experience, customer service experience, leadership skills, ability to work with little to no supervision, experience in conflict resolution.

KTB Student Supervisor

MUST HAVE PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT

Student Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the entirety of the Kelly Turf Building and Outdoor Fields during open hours of operation. Student Supervisors must be knowledgeable of all policies of the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management operation and make decisions based on previous experience, and the mission of the facilities, and their services. The Student Supervisors assist in the oversight of other student employees in the absence of professional team staff, administer the policies and rules of the department, open and close the Kelly Family Sports Center, and is a general “trouble-shooter” within the facility. Nick Kwon

October RecStar: Nick Kwon

On behalf of the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management, please join me in congratulating Nick Kwon on been awarded with October Rec Star! He is being recognized for his outstanding work ethic, receiving multiple positive write ups, as well as working nearly 65 hours throughout the month of October. Nick was constantly seen going above and beyond the call of duty when on his shifts by utilizing his time productively, providing prospective members tours of the whole facility, and by being willing to help out in any way possible! Not only in the Rec Center, but he was happy to help out at the swim meet as a backup timer, which was a huge help! His eagerness to continue to improve our facility and operations shows every time he comes in to work and it is appreciated! Nick truly is a rec star, thanks for all you do! Congrats!

2018-2019 Employee of the Year

Please join Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management in congratulating Devon Gildea as our 2018-2019 Employee of the Year! Devon has worked at the Kelly Family Sports Center since fall of 2016. Throughout Devon’s employment he has provided extraordinary work in all tasks assigned and shown great leadership in difficult situations. He assists our staff in many extra duties and helps not only the Kelly Family Sports Center, but all the outdoor athletic and recreation complexes look top notch for competitions. His outstanding leadership ability, problem-solving skills and positivity helps our operations run smoothly. We are very grateful to have Devon on our team.
