Outdoor Fields and Courts
Grand Valley State University is proud to be able to supply its students, faculty and both club and intercollegiate athletic teams with some of the nicest outdoor sports facilities in the Midwest.
Arend D. Lubbers Stadium
Home to record-breaking crowds, Lubbers Stadium set both a stadium and GLIAC single-game on-campus attendance record when 17,007 fans watched Grand Valley take on Ferris State. In 2024, new restrooms and concession facilities were added to enhance the fan experience, along with a new viewing deck designed to host events and serve concessions.
GVSU Baseball Field
Located next to the Kelly Family Sports Center, the GVSU Baseball Field is home to the Laker Baseball Team. In 2024, the facility received a new AstroTurf surface, along with upgraded bullpen areas and a relocated hitting cage. This facility is reserved exclusively for GVSU Athletics.
GVSU Softball Field
Completed in 2008, the GVSU Softball Field features a natural grass outfield, mixed clay infield, dugouts, batting cages, a modern scoreboard, stadium-style seating, and a fully enclosed press box. Located directly behind the Kelly Family Sports Center, this facility is reserved exclusively for GVSU Athletics.
The South Complex (outdoor track and lacrosse)
Opened in 2012, the South Complex serves as a premier facility for the Laker Track & Field and Women’s Lacrosse teams. It features a nine-lane, 400-meter track with dedicated areas for field events such as pole vault and throws. Inside the track is a full-sized, lined lacrosse field that hosts the Lakers’ home competitions in the spring.
The outdoor track is typically open for drop-in use on most weekdays during the spring, summer, and fall. Please note that scheduled events or inclement weather may occasionally limit access.
Laker Tennis Courts
Located adjacent to the Kelly Family Sports Center, Grand Valley State University offers eight outdoor tennis courts. The courts are open to the public when not in use by the GVSU Laker Tennis Team or other scheduled activities.
GVSU Soccer Field
Home to the GVSU Women’s Soccer program, this facility is located off West Campus Drive, across from the Meadows Golf Course. In 2025, the playing surface was upgraded from natural grass to AstroTurf artificial turf. Adjacent to the field are newly renovated locker rooms, along with a weight room and athletic training facilities that support the team’s year-round training and competition needs.
Outdoor Basketball Courts
GVSU features three full-size outdoor basketball courts, located north of the Kelly Family Sports Center and west of the Fieldhouse. The courts include overhead lighting, with on/off times that vary by season. Outdoor basketball courts are open for drop-in play when the weather permits.
Sand Volleyball Courts
GVSU offers three sand volleyball courts for Grand Valley students, located north of the Kelly Family Sports Center and west of the Fieldhouse. The courts feature overhead lighting, with seasonal on/off times. Sand volleyball is closed in late fall for the winter semester and reopens in late spring. Courts are available for drop-in play when the weather permits.
Synthetic Turf Fields
Constructed in 2010, the East Turf Field hosts Intramurals and Club Sports, including rugby, lacrosse, and soccer. The West Turf Fields, built in 2011 and located west of the Outdoor Track/Lacrosse Stadium, span 252,000 sq. ft. and accommodate soccer, lacrosse, flag football, and two artificial turf softball fields with lighting for evening activities. These turf fields are open for drop-in use whenever Intramurals or Club Sports are not scheduled.
