The Recreation Center within the Raleigh J. Finkelstein Athletic Village

Recreation Center History

1996 – The Recreation Center was constructed, featuring two levels of fitness equipment, a three-court gymnasium, and a 1/9-mile track on the third level.

2002 – The facility underwent its first major renovation, expanding the fitness equipment areas on both levels and adding an auxiliary gymnasium.

2016 – The Recreation Center received a $20 million addition and expansion funded through the University Development Fund, ensuring no additional cost to students. The 50,000-square-foot project, completed in November 2016, included a new front desk and lobby, equipment checkout room, office suite, two new weight rooms, an instructional fitness studio, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a gender-inclusive locker room, and multipurpose courts 6–8. Renovations to the original spaces brought the total facility to 95,000 square feet.

2025 – The weight room received a full upgrade to provide a safer, more modern, and reliable environment for strength training. These improvements cater to a wide range of fitness levels and training styles, reflecting the University’s commitment to maintaining a top-tier fitness facility.
