1. CLAS Director of Communications-Welcome to Kristen Krueger-Corrado
We are excited to welcome Kristen Krueger-Corrado as the new CLAS Director of Communications. She will assume the role on February 6. Kristen brings a wealth of experience and West Michigan connections to this position. She was a member of the Leadership of Grand Rapids Class of 2016, and she is currently the president of the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America. Kristen holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University and a Master of Management with a specialization in Communication from Aquinas College. She worked as the Marketing and Communications Manager at the Grand Rapids Public Library for sixteen years. Before that, she was the Public Relations and Marketing Manager at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. We look forward to working with Kristen and will organize opportunities for her to connect with you to learn more about the great work happening in units and across the college.

2. CLAS Voyage
This Friday, February 3, is the last day to submit a pilot proposal to get paid for summer work aligning potential Embarking Experiences or Student Learning Communities with the CLAS Voyage and the Curricular Frameworks for High-Impact Practices. We especially encourage innovative, multidisciplinary courses, and team teaching and linked courses. The work is paid at $1000 per faculty up to $2000 per proposal (either as a stipend or professional development funds) for cohorted work in the Spring 2023 time period.

Apply at the link on the CCEL website, or send Kris Pachla an email with any questions.

3. Student Success Strategies – Registration Updates for 2023/2024
Registration Holds: All students with under 24 credit hours or who have transferred in the last year have a hold on their record that will stop them from registering for 2023-34 until they meet with an advisor.  Professional advisors in the CLAS Academic Advising Center have the ability to release the advising holds to permit registration. Faculty do not have access to lift the holds, however.... If you meet with a student to plan for 2023-24 enrollment, please make notes in Navigate and include the course plan that was developed. You can then send an email to [email protected] to notify the Center that you have met with the student and developed a registration plan. The Center will review the course plan and release the hold. Please give them up to 48 hours to release the hold as student traffic will be very heavy during parts of this semester as students prepare for registration. There is no need to notify the Center of meetings you have with students who do not have a registration hold.

Navigate: As a reminder, the university expects that all faculty and staff advisors will put notes about meetings with students in Navigate. The advisors in the CLAS Academic Advising Center are available to schedule a session for faculty or units on the “how-to’s” and tips for using the system. This session can be held in person or virtually. Additionally, the Navigate site has a variety of helpful hints for using the system.

4. Reminder for Scheduling PAD 308 Conference Room
Just a reminder that you need to contact the CLAS Dean’s Office ([email protected]) if you want to reserve the PAD 308 conference room. If you use the room, you are responsible for making sure all cords and connectors are either left in the room or you must bring your own. If your meeting lasts beyond 5:00 p.m., you are responsible for returning the key to the box outside the Chemistry Department office.

5. eLearning Updates and Information on the Switch to Blackboard Ultra
Blackboard Ultra will be here in a little more than 95 days. The eLearning website provides resources to help you with the transition to this new learning management system. There will also be an opportunity to meet with Blackboard Ultra representatives and to attend workshops on the Allendale campus on Friday, February 3. You can register on Sprout.
