Welcome to Physician Assistant Studies
As part of Grand Valley State University's College of Health Professions, the Physician Assistant Studies program (PAS) is designed for students seeking a career as a Physician Assistant. Graduates of the PAS program are eligible to take the National Certification Commission on Physician Assistants’ (NCCPA) Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE), and may apply for licensure in any of the 50 states, District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories. Graduates seeking employment in states other than Michigan may obtain further information on submission of a state-specific licensure application from the American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA) website for the respective state.
To prepare highly competent physician assistants who embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion; lead and advance the profession; and provide quality patient-centered healthcare in all communities and settings.
MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCE IN PATIENT CARE
•To provide physician assistant students with the knowledge and clinical skills to deliver effective and equitable healthcare.
•To inspire students to model the professional values and ethical behaviors expected of physician assistants.
•To develop the interpersonal skills necessary for physician assistant students to communicate with patients and work effectively in interprofessional health care teams.
•To develop the clinical reasoning and problem solving skills necessary for physician assistant students to interpret medical literature and apply that knowledge to clinical practice.
The Grand Valley State University Physician Assistant Studies Department is committed to upholding the pillars of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. This commitment has been enhanced by the development of the Physician Assistant Studies Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) Advisory Committee.
