Overview
Telling a consistent story about Grand Valley promotes the value and impact of our university and the impact Lakers have on their communities and around the globe. Every unit within GVSU has a compelling story to tell.
Copywriting should be sincere, dignified, and to the point. Our words should convey Grand Valley's commitment to empowering learners in their pursuits, professions, and purpose. Remember, our voice is inspirational and aspirational — lead with emotion and supplement with facts.

Diversity, Inclusivity Writing Style Guide
This collective work began on campus in late fall 2021 to align with GVSU's values of a welcoming and inclusive campus. Best practices were studied from higher education institutions around the country and adapted for Grand Valley, with input from current students, faculty and staff members. This guide is not a mandate when writing for Grand Valley websites and other materials. It only offers thoughtful, practical guidance when writing and speaking about diverse populations.
