The communication and public advocacy minor examines different forms of communication used to support specific issues and causes.

Overview

The program focuses on the theories and concepts needed to voice and argue for one's position in various contexts, including the evaluation of others' arguments.

Core coursework builds a foundation in speech, argument and analysis, and communication theory. You will choose from electives like news reporting, health communication systems, nonverbal communication, media literacy, debate, communications policy and law, and more to build the skills to advocate for various causes.

Studying communication at Grand Valley offers a dynamic and flexible curriculum guided by engaged faculty who are both dedicated teachers and active scholars. You will have numerous opportunities to develop your skills and gain professional experience through the campus newspaper (Lanthorn), student-run television (GVTV), radio (Whale), visual and performing arts, and internships with organizations like PBS/NPR. This comprehensive approach ensures you're well-equipped for a diverse array of career paths after graduation.
