Applied linguistics is an interdisciplinary field focused on investigating and improving global language-related issues.

Overview

This minor is designed for students interested in pursuing the systematic study of language and issues in its acquisition, teaching, and use. Students with this minor are adequately prepared to teach English internationally and pursue careers in adult literacy, refugee services, publishing, nonprofits, and more.

The general track is for students interested in studying language applications in teaching, learning, and use. The ESL track prepares students for elementary or secondary teaching certification in the U.S. It meets Michigan Department of Education standards and provides an ESL endorsement, an additional credential to a Michigan teaching license.

With experienced faculty and specialized courses, students receive:
