Meeting Virtually

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Writing Center is only offering online services in order to protect staff, students, and the GVSU community. Scroll through the summaries on the right, or head to our Online Services page to learn more about how you can meet with a consultant virtually. You can also visit our COVID-19 page or contact Patrick Johnson, Writing Center Director (johpatri@gvsu.edu) to learn more about the safety measures the center is taking during this time.

We are excited to offer you two options for virtual, synchronous consultations: Appointments and Drop-Ins.

Each consultation option offers you 30 minutes to work one-to-one with a consultant to collaboratively establish goals, work on your project concerns, and help plan your next steps. Our consultants are highly trained and are able to adapt to your needs - each session is as unique as the writer and the consultant themselves!

You are able to schedule a virtual appointment with a consultant through logging into Book It and selecting "New Appointment". From there, you are able to select a date and time that is tailored to your schedule.

If you are interested in a drop-in consultation, log into Book It and select "Virtual Dropin". You will then enter our queue, and the next available writing consultant will reach out to you through your student email when they are ready to work with you.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, email consultations are available to all GVSU students. Our new scheduling system requires special permission to access email support so please fill out an Additional Services Request form or contact Patrick Johnson (johpatri@gvsu.edu) if you need access. Once you are in the system, simply submit your project through Book It and receive feedback within 72 hours.

Email consultations are open for submission every day of the week.

For more information about email consultations, visit our page or contact us with any questions and concerns.

Are you looking for a guaranteed weekly consultation with the opportunity to build relationships and accomplish your writing goals? A Weekly Appointment may be for you!

Weekly Appointments offer you the opportunity to meet with the same writing consultant every week for a 50 minute consultation. This service option allows for you to build upon your writing goals throughout the semester, and for time to focus on main ideas in your consultation. Simply fill out an Additional Services Request form and then check your student email for more information!

Head to our Weekly Appointment page to learn more!
