New Features to Form Builder in CMS 5
Published July 3, 2025 by Keith Curry
With the new capabilities of CMS 5, Form Builder brings a range of exciting features that give administrators more flexibility, efficiency, and control than ever before. These enhancements are designed to help you manage forms and data more effectively, all within the CMS.
1. Public Lists and Views of Approved Form Responses
CMS 5 introduces the ability to enable Public Lists and Public Views of approved form responses. Within the Form Settings, while editing a specific question, you can activate this option and choose which questions will display on:
- The public edit form (if allowed to add their submissions)
- The public list (a summary of approved responses visible to the public)
- The public view (a full display of a single approved response)
Admins continue to see all submitted data, but now you have control over what is shared publicly.
2. Expanded Administrator Capabilities
Form administrators can now add new responses, edit existing submissions, and approve responses so they appear on public lists and views—all directly from the admin interface. These options give you more flexibility and simplify the management of form data.
3. Branded Email Notifications
All emails generated by CMS 5, including those sent through Form Builder, now use GVSU’s branded templates. This ensures your communications are polished, consistent, and professional.
4. Smarter Field Types and Filtering Options
CMS 5 also introduces new field types and filtering options that make forms easier for users to complete:
- Counties field: Filter counties based on the state selected.
- Programs field: Filter programs by type (certificate, badge, combined, major, minor, etc.).
- College field: Select from a dropdown list of GVSU colleges.
More resources are on the way to help you get the most out of Form Builder in CMS 5. We’ll be adding in-depth guides right here on this site, along with video tutorials that walk through key features and best practices—making it even easier to build and manage forms with confidence.
