TRIO STEM Program Note

We have transitioned to phone, virtual video chat or email appointments until further notice.  All  appointments will allow you to select one of the following options of phone, virtual video chat or email. Our goal is to help you stay academically focused and to make sure your advising and other academic needs are being met. Your health and safety are important to us.

Information and Resources during Remote Access

Internet Access

 If you do not have internet access, you can check with any of these. We do not support or promote any
 specific business but are just passing along information to you.

  • Comcast - To sign up, applicants can simply visit The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.
  • Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, announced that beginning March 16, it will make its services available for free for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who don’t already have internet through the company. To enroll in the program, call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.

Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit []. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.Make your links look like links. Users won't click them if they can't find them!

Laptop Access

If you do not have a laptop, there are two resources on campus to help you.

TRIO STEM has a limited number that can be loaned out. Contact us to reserve one. 

The University Libraries has a limited number of Windows 10, internet-enabled laptops to loan until March 29th to students who need them. Fill out a laptop request form to get in the queue.

Tutoring and Writing Center Updates

Tutoring Center - Details about connecting with tutors online will be coming soon. You may continues to submit tutoring request.  

Fred Meijer Center for Writing & Michigan Authors -  The Writing Center is now open virtually during all regular hours of operation! Our physical locations are closed along with all GVSU classes, however we are excited to work with you online during all hours of operation (Monday - Thursday 9 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday 2 p.m.- 11 p.m.). 

You can receive support by sharing a Google Doc with or by speaking with a Knowledge Market receptionist via Google Meet: Additional information about online services is available here:

If you have a scheduled appointment, your consultant will email you when your session is scheduled to begin. The email will have an invitation to join the consultant in a Google Meet room so you can begin working. If you have any issues, please reach out via the Virtual Knowledge Market front door: 

Financial Issues

The Office of Financial Aid has a page of questions and answers about financial aid, scholarships, economic hardship, and student employees. Please visit for the most recent updates as this situation continues to change. 

Food Insecurity


The Laker Meal Share Program helps support students in times of hardship by providing meals to meet immediate needs. Campus Dinning and the Dean of Students Office have teamed up to help create the Laker Meal Share Program. This program allows GVSU meal plan users to contribute guest meal swipes from their meal plan each semester. Contributed meals go into a pool that can be used to provide access to Campus Dinning for students who might otherwise go hungry.

SAINT LUKE FOOD PANTRY - 10144 42nd Ave (Just past Grand Valley Apartments)

Our April Food Pantry will be Thursday, April 9, 3 – 5:30 p.m..

Please, if you are need food prior to this date call the parish office at (616) 895-2247. This is open to all GVSU students, all Parishioners, and Allendale residence. We will be able to help you within hours of a call for emergency help.

– Love INC also has a food pantry:
Monday 1-6 p.m. & Thursday 1-6 p.m. at 6561 Lake Michigan Drive here in Allendale – this is for anyone who needs food; it’s also the time & location for food donations

– Diaper Store of Allendale.
Valley Church holds a diaper and wipes pantry. Right now they are holding it for the next three on Saturdays from 10 – 11 am at 5980 Lake Michigan Dr. After that it is the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
