Bridge up to Hybrid Mode

Foundation courses are not offered in hybrid mode. These courses are required for regular-standing MSW students, but not for advanced-standing MSW students. If you need some or all the foundation courses, you can bridge up to the hybrid mode courses in several ways:

  • Meet foundation requirements by taking courses in the traditional mode. All foundation courses are offered as traditional 15-week courses meeting weekly in Grand Rapids.
  • Take online foundation courses. Currently, we offer SW 620 (Human Behavior and the Social Environment) in an online format. In Winter 2021 we will begin offering SW 610 (Social Welfare Policy and Services I) in an online format. Please check back to see what other online foundation courses will be offered in Spring/Summer And Fall of 2021. You can also complete (with a grade of B or better) equivalent courses from another CSWE-accredited institution and transfer them into our program. You can transfer up to 18 credits. Please consult with your MSW director about finding appropriate classes for transfer.
  • Test out of SW 690 (Social Research I). This would need to be replaced with an extra elective.
