Student engagement is at the heart of Seidman’s commitment to societal impact. Through student organizations, service initiatives, and mentorship programs, students gain hands-on experience while making meaningful contributions to the community. Each opportunity builds leadership, strengthens professional skills, and reinforces the value of giving back.
Community Impact Highlights from Student Organizations
Below is a summary of the societal impact activities of Seidman student organizations, showcasing how students are engaging with the community through service, education, and entrepreneurship. Each section below details key initiatives that not only support the mission of the college but also develop students’ skills, networks, and sense of civic responsibility.
Accounting Student Association (ASA)
Accounting Student Association (ASA), formerly known as Beta Alpha Psi, had a significant impact through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. In this initiative, members worked directly with community members to file taxes free of charge, offering a vital public service that supported financial stability for low-income families. Through this program, students gained invaluable experience with real-world accounting practices, while also improving financial literacy in the local community.
ASA further contributed to student development through bi-weekly meetings and networking events with firms, preparing members for future careers in finance and accounting.
American Marketing Association (AMA)
The American Marketing Association (AMA) made a notable community impact through its collaboration with the StoreHouse, where members organized and supported supply drives aimed at addressing basic needs in underserved communities. This work reflected a commitment to social responsibility while giving students a hands-on opportunity to apply marketing principles in a service context.
Additionally, AMA hosted guest speakers such as Danielle Fedel from 1 Bold Step and engaged in resume and interview preparation events, enhancing students’ career readiness and helping them build connections with marketing professionals.
Collegiate Entrepreneur's Organization (CEO Club)
The CEO Club championed entrepreneurship by mentoring students through the early stages of business planning and development.
Their work led to the advancement of three student-run businesses, offering guidance on viable pitches and strategies. The club’s initiatives helped build confidence, encouraged innovation, and provided students with concrete steps to bring their ideas to life. In addition to one-on-one support, the CEO Club hosted development workshops and brought in speakers like Travis Richards of Cat Footwear, exposing students to real-world success stories and strategies within entrepreneurial ventures.
Delta Sigma Pi
Delta Sigma Pi focused its efforts on civic engagement and student preparation. Members organized clothing and supply drives for local nonprofits, reinforcing their role as responsible corporate citizens.
They also hosted events that prepared students for job interviews and professional interactions, such as dressing for success and LinkedIn profile reviews. By blending service and professional development, DSP offered a well-rounded model of leadership and social contribution that benefited both students and the broader community.
Economics Club
The Economics Club supported student success by hosting professional development events aimed at preparing economics majors for internships and jobs.
Their events, such as a LinkedIn and Resume Workshop led by Dwight Hamilton, helped students articulate their academic strengths and career goals more effectively. Though not focused on direct service, the club played a critical role in supporting career readiness and economic self-empowerment for first-generation and business-focused students.
