Seidman Student Organizations Unite for Annual Park Clean-Up Initiative
Published August 5, 2025
Each year, Seidman College of Business student organizations come together for a local park clean up that reflects their growing commitment to community engagement and environmental responsibility. Led by the Supply Chain Management Association and supported by several other groups, the event has become a steady reminder of how collective effort can benefit the broader community.
The initiative began in 2022 as a small volunteer effort and has grown into a consistent service tradition. More than one hundred students have taken part over the past three years, gathering to remove litter, improve trails, and help restore natural spaces. What started modestly now brings together students from many business disciplines who share an interest in improving their surroundings.
Roosevelt Park is the usual site of the clean up. Student organizations work together to coordinate planning, recruit volunteers, and create a welcoming space for anyone who wants to participate. New volunteers often join returning ones, which strengthens the sense of community among Seidman students.
Support from the American Marketing Association, the Society of Human Resource Management, and other student groups has helped expand the reach of the initiative. Their involvement highlights a shared belief that community service belongs to everyone, regardless of major or future profession.
The environmental results are easy to see. Cleaner trails and restored green areas show the immediate value of the effort. The event also gives students a chance to take ownership of a local issue and experience how much change can come from working side by side. It connects their classroom education to the real world in a meaningful way.
As organizers look ahead to the fourth year in 2025, the focus remains on collaboration and continued participation. What began as a simple clean up has grown into a reflection of Seidman’s values and a model of purposeful leadership.
The annual clean up serves as an example of how steady, shared action can create lasting impact. Year after year, Seidman students show that caring for the spaces around them is not only possible but powerful when done together.
