Becoming a charter school board member
Interested in serving on a board? Fantastic!
To become a charter public school board member, a candidate must:
- Be nominated by a charter school board
- Interview with a representative of the GVSU DEISS
- Complete an application for board service
- Successfully pass a background check and verify citizenship
- Be approved for appointment by the GVSU Board of Trustees
- Receive official Term Letter and new board member training modules
- Take the public oath of office

Note: The time between application and approval for appointment can vary depending on when steps 1-5 are completed in relation to GVSU's Board of Trustees meetings, so meeting deadlines for each step is critical!
