According to Michigan charter school law, charter authorizers may retain up to 3% of the per-pupil funds its charter schools receive. At GVSU, these funds are used to cover operational costs; however, a significant portion is returned to the schools either directly or through supplemental support opportunities.
Below are support opportunities available to GVSU's charter schools that incorporate involvement from boards of directors.
Academic Grant
Schools and their boards can receive additional financial support through the Academic Grant by accomplishing specific education, governance, and compliance goals each year.
Core Values Award
The Core Values Award is annually presented to a school whose program, project, practice, or other initiative best demonstrates advancement of a particular GVSU shared value.
