1. Thank you, Spring Gathering participants

Last week’s Spring Celebration for faculty and staff was a big success. Thanks to Faculty Council for their partnership. We would like to give a special shout out to Sally Ross, her husband Ken, Len O’Kelly, and Mona Silva. Without their work, this event would not have been possible. The Calder Arts Center was a wonderful venue. We appreciate the collaboration and support from the Department of Visual and Media Arts (Paul Wittenbraker, Alicia Delacruz, and Jenna Stehouwer).

2. “Undeliverable” Incomplete Grade Form

Please double check the email address you enter for your students on the online Incomplete Grade Form. We have received many “undeliverable” emails from Outlook that cannot be delivered to the student because of typos. The Incomplete form serves as a contract between the instructor and student laying out the terms of completing course work, so if the student does not receive a copy, they could argue they did not understand what was required. Student email addresses are easily accessible in Banner.

3. No fee workshop on OER

Are you interested in the following:

  • Providing free online textbooks or other course materials to your students?

  • Having your own textbook that is a combination of multiple existing books (e.g., chapters 1-4 from Smith, 5-6 from Jones, and 7-10 from Van der Jones)?

  • Creating your own online course materials (including a full textbook and homework) that you can share with others?

Hope College will be hosting a workshop this summer to help people learn how to use and create Open Education Resources. This workshop will be specifically centered on one OER platform called LibreTexts. LibreTexts is the most-visited OER platform in the world and includes materials in all subject areas.

The free workshop will be June 27-29. You can register for the workshop here. Want to know more? reach out to me Rachel Driscoll ([email protected]). This workshop is open to anyone, not just GSVU faculty, so please feel free to share this invitation.
