Welcome!

Writing Center services for spring session (May 4 - June 18)

The Writing Center is open virtually to support you during spring and summer sessions!

You can receive support by sharing a Google Doc with virtualwc@mail.gvsu.edu or by speaking with a Knowledge Market receptionist via Google Meet: https://gvsu.edu/library/km/dropin

Daytime: Monday-Thursday 10am - 6pm (appointments available between 2 - 4pm if made 24 hours in advance)

Evening: Monday-Wednesday 8pm - 10pm

You can also receive feedback via our email service by filling out our web form. We aim to provide feedback within 72 hours of submission.

Writing Center services closed for Memorial Day (May 25).

For scheduled appointments, your consultant will email you when your session is scheduled to begin. The email will have an invitation to join the consultant in a Google Meet room so you can begin working.

If you have any issues, questions, or concerns, please contact the Writing Center Director (Patrick Johnson - johpatri@gvsu.edu).

We look forward to working with you!

A note to students

In order to be consulted on your writing, please stay online. Your consultant can work with you in a variety of ways, but all of them require your participation.

If you share a Google Doc, your consultant will reach out through the chat feature of Google Docs to learn more about your paper and what aspects you want to work on. They will also share a Google Meet link in case you would like to speak directly to your consultant.

If you made an appointment, your consultant will also share a Google Meet link when it is time to begin your session. Please disregard the appointment location in the automatically generated emails. All sessions are currently virtual.

Regardless of how you connect with your consultant, we will do our best to adapt to your needs and preferences (both academically and technologically).

If there are issues or problems communicating, your consultant will contact you at your GVSU student email to help troubleshoot.

We're here to assist you with any writing project, at any stage of your writing process. The center's well-trained peer consultants can help you to brainstorm ideas, organize content, integrate research, polish a draft, and correctly document sources.

Any graduate or undergraduate GVSU student can make an appointment or take advantage of our drop-in hours simply by coming into the center with a draft of your writing. Faculty and staff interested in writing consultations for their own work and our other services can call 616-331-2922.
