Concert Bands

The concert bands, the anchor of our program, consist of The Wind SymphonyConcert Band, and University Band. All ensembles offer, to both music and non-music majors, an opportunity to continue music at the collegiate level. Concerts occur throughout the year in the Haas Center for the Performing Arts on the Allendale campus, with performances off-campus at selected high schools and conferences.

Symphony Orchestra

The GVSU Symphony Orchestra is comprised of music major, minor, and students from across campus. They perform a wide range of professional level literature with performances in the Louis Armstrong Theater and around West Michigan. Concerts occur throughout the year in the Haas Center for the Performing Arts on the Allendale campus, with performances off-campus at selected high schools and conferences.

Athletic Bands

The “Pride of the Midwest” Laker Marching Band that is one of the largest and most visible NCAA Div. II marching bands in the country and has provided quality music and entertainment for football fans since 1977. As one of the most diversified and visible organizations on campus, the 220 member Laker Marching Band is composed of students who represent over 50 different degree plans.

The 38 member Basketball Pep Band plays at the home games of the men's and women's basketball games and frequently travels to post-season tourney games.

The 18 member (brass and percussion only) Volleyball Pep Band plays at the home games of the GVSU Women's Volleyball Team and frequently travels to post-season tourney games.

The 10 member Soccer Drumline plays at the home games of the 7-time National Champion GVSU Women's Soccer Team and frequently travels to post-season tourney games.
