The most helpful aspects of my undergraduate education in mathematics were: It's hard to pick to just a handful of things that were helpful about my undergraduate experience at GVSU. One of the most helpful things I've found was the dedicated proofs writing course. Going into graduate school, I found I was much more comfortable with proof methods because of this dedicated course and dedicated time to learn about proof writing. Additionally, I utilized many of the undergraduate research opportunities GVSU has to offer which helped to prepare me to be successful in graduate level research.

The advice I’d offer to current undergraduate students in mathematics: My best piece of advice would be to take all the courses you can and create relationships with the professors in the department. After graduating the knowledge from the courses and the support system I created at GVSU have been the most helpful for me. Even many years after graduating my undergraduate research mentor is still one of the best mentors I've ever had.

In a typical day in my work, I: I am currently working on research towards my Ph.D. This includes collaborating with other researchers and lots of reading about the current state of the art methods in our field. My job currently requires me to do a lot of writing to describe the algorithm that we've designed.

Other thoughts/comments:Especially after speaking with other mathematics students in my program, I've realized how fortunate I was to be a part of the GVSU math department! Undergrad seems like it goes by way too fast, sometimes, and my fondest memories are spending time on a difficult proof with my fellow students and professors.
