The most helpful aspects of my undergraduate education in mathematics were: Before my time at GVSU, I thought math instruction had to be through lecture. The math ed professors showed me that wasn't the case by teaching me without lecturing. I and the other students would spend class periods working together in groups on interesting tasks, and the professors were like our coaches. It was eye-opening, and it completely changed how I thought about the math classroom.

The advice I’d offer to current undergraduate students in mathematics: You don't have to have a set plan. Every decision presents new opportunities, many you may never have expected. I never planned on running a company, but when I look back now I can see how it was just a series of opportunities that I took one at time.

In a typical day in my work, I: Along with my co-founder, I started a site where we share our high school statistics and mathematics lessons with other teachers. This side-project grew into a full-time business that I now run as CEO. I spend my time writing curriculum and working with teachers across the country with the goal of improving mathematics education.
