The most helpful aspects of my undergraduate education in mathematics were: learning how to balance a story with passion and logic, and to know how to craft a compelling argument that’s supported by data.
The advice I’d offer to current undergraduate students in mathematics: Take advantage of every opportunity available while you’re in school (internships, volunteering, resources to learn new programming languages) so you have a wide range of experiences to point to when you’re searching for your dream job.
In a typical day in my work: I sit with Disney’s data engineering team, supporting Disney Cruise Line and envisioning how data can be further integrated into decision making and into the guest experience. As a product manager I act as a liaison between technology and business teams at Disney, making sure that the technology team fully understands the needs and priorities of the business and that the business teams have the right expectations of the technology team.
