Grand Valley is one of the most affordable colleges in Michigan. The information provided below will help you understand our tuition, housing, food, and parking permit costs.

Tuition is based on the classification of the student and the course: undergraduate lower or upper division, resident, or non-resident; and graduate by program. These are figures for the 2024-2025 academic year, which includes the Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring/Summer 2025 semesters.

Other Estimated Yearly Expenses

  • Housing and Food: $10,420 based on an unlimited meal plan for students living on campus in a traditional style living center. Other housing and meal plan options are available.
  • Books, Course Materials, Supplies, and Equipment: $780 estimated for a full-time student for two semesters.
  • Transportation: Parking permits cost $420 per year if you are a full-time student living on campus and bringing a car to campus. Bus transportation is free between the Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses. Students not residing on campus should estimate their living and transportation costs on an individual basis.
  • Miscellaneous Personal Expenses: $2,477 estimated amount a full-time student may choose to spend on personal needs for two semesters.

A per credit hour or per course surcharge will be assessed for certain classes to offset higher costs.

Admissions applications can be submitted online, and additional course information can be found on the online catalog.


Notes: 

1) Students enrolled as graduates pay their graduate program tuition rate for all courses taken.

2) Students enrolled as graduates taking undergraduate courses with an additional tuition charge will have that charge waived. 

3) Students enrolled as undergraduates taking masters and doctorate courses pay undergraduate tuition rate.

4) Tuition rate for graduate certificate programs defaults to the admitted graduate program unless the graduate certificate is the primary program.

5) Effective with the Spring/Summer 2020 semester, Grand Valley State University will no longer assess the $25 additional tuition charge per credit hour for all Online and Hybrid courses.  Tuition and Fees will be charged at the same rate whether instruction is delivered in-person, online, or through hybrid platforms.
