Jewelry and Metals Alumna featured in Hour Detroit Magazine

Collyn DeBano is the designer and maker behind Tree Trunk Arts, a company she started in 2009 while receiving a degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing.  Now from her home studio in Detroit, Michigan, she creates this one of a kind line of jewelry using the actual plant in the process. Each piece is one of a kind, due to the wonder of nature and her spin on the casting process.

"The trees that line our streets, the plants we fill our window sills with, the blooms we decorate our tables with. The textures and forms of nature, that are so much a part of our everyday lives constantly inspire me. Through the process of casting, I have found a way to preserve them forever and allow us to wear the moments of nature we love.  Over the last 8 years, I have been collecting and casting the seeds and twigs that catch my eye and turning them into jewelry to wear every day.  If the beauty of nature is all around us, why not wear it?" — says DeBano.

The work has recently received recognition by Hour Detroit, a monthly city magazine covering the Metro Detroit Area. Founded in 1996, the issue has a circulation of around 45,000 copies. Tree Trunk Arts pieces can now be found in 50 shops in the United States and Canada. You can also look for Colleen's booth in art fairs across the state.
