Venezuelan Filmmaker to visit GVSU

The Department of Visual and Media Arts welcomes editor and director Gustavo Rondón as a Visiting Artist for an artist lecture on Thursday, April 5th, 2018, 12:00 p.m., Room 174 Lake Superior Hall.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1977, Rondón holds a Communications degree from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), as well as a Film Degree from the Film Directing Academic Program at the Film and Television School from the Academy of Interpretative Arts in Prague (FAMU), Czech Republic. He has written, directed and produced several short films shown at international festivals as Berlinale, Tribeca, Biarritz, Toulouse, Havana. His most recent short film, Nostalgia, was selected for Berlinale Short Film Official Competition 2012, and it was acquired and exhibited by Arte Television Channel, the prestigious European broadcaster. La Familia (The Family) is Rondón’s feature film debut, which had its world premiere in Cannes Critic’s Week 2017 in Official Competition and has been selected in more than thirty-five film festivals around the world including Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Jerusalem, Chicago, Mar del Plata, Cairo, winning awards as Best Film in Biarritz, Santiago, Lima and Skopje, among others.
