Jewelry and metals alum David Huang featured in dual-exhibit at the Muskegon Museum of Art

David Huang (BFA, Jewelry and Metals, 2001) joins artist David Burnhill in a two-person exhibit at the Muskegon Museum of Art titled "The Poetry of Metal: David Barnhill and David Huang".

Huang's works are recognized by their subtle conical vessel forms and intricate copper, gold, and silver-leaf surface treatments. In his own words, Huang states that "this is work about things I treasure: the natural, sensual world, skilled labor, timeless beauty, and the inner spirit made visible." His work is featured in a variety of publications and is part of many art collections, including the Muskegon Museum of Art, GVSU Art Gallery, and Hermann Miller. He is currently represented by Creative Metalsmiths (Chapel Hill, NC), LaFontsee Galleries (Grand Rapids & Douglas, MI), Vale Craft Gallery (Chicago, IL); R. Grey Gallery (Boise, ID), Velvet da Vinci (San Francisco, CA), and William Zimmer Gallery (Mendocino, CA).

The show also features Huang's and Barnhill's collaborative series: Layered Resplendence. This work, as stated in the Museum's release "blends the unique patterns of Barnhill’s Mokumé Gane with Huang’s sculptural vessels, adding further complexity and surface variation to their respective artistry."

The exhibit is on display until June 10. Moreover, MCC will host two more programs with the exhibit:

  • Crash Course Demo with David Huang: a demonstration of metalworking techniques on Thursday, April 26, 6 p.m.
  • Metal Super Saturday with David Huang: a film, tours, and a special artist demo on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Muskegon Museum of Art is located at 296 W. Webster Ave. in downtown Muskegon.
