Kay Mayer (Visual Studies, BFA) talks about her BFA exhibit for Cultured.GR

Visual Studies BFA student Kay Mayer invited by local arts critical dialogue organization Cultured.GR to talk about the work developed for her recent senior BFA Exhibition.
"triangulation(s): A BFA Exhibit” is an effort to disrupt settler shame. The work is inspired by personal experiences of abuse and neglect, which are situated within a narrative of intergenerational trauma. It looks to the past in order to interpret the present, prefiguratively enacting a decolonized future. In this exhibition of installation and large-scale video, Mayer questions "the power dynamics to which we often unknowingly consent."
You can read Mayer's article on this link. She is a Visual Studies (Department of Visual and Media Arts) alumna at Grand Valley State University. Additionally, she is an Anishinaabekwe who is a member of the Office for Public Culture & also works with a women’s healing collective located in the territory known as Grand Rapids, MI. The editors at Cultured.GR were so impressed with the quality of critical discourse produced by Mayer that she will also be writing more reviews for them in the future.
