Seidman College of Business hosted the Ottawa County Gauntlet on October 14: the Gauntlet is a multi-round life skills program for Ottawa County High School students with the opportunity to win up to a $5,000 scholarship.

High school students seated at tables during the Ottawa County Gauntlet event at Grand Valley State University's Seidman College of Business.

Students rotate through stations to complete  tasks, including business scenarios, mock toasts, and elevator pitches. Students build people skills, like teamwork, adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving that are valuable and transferable to real world situations.

Three high school students work together to build a structure during a hands-on building exercise.

Seidman hosts this event annually and plays a greater role in giving students the experience of being in a collegiate setting. Students received guidance with feedback, reassurance, and support throughout the round by faculty, staff and student volunteers who served as station facilitators and team leads.

Students may not always get opportunities such as this one, which supports success after graduation and life. Scholarship recipients can apply their scholarships to a university or trade of their choosing.

Seidman’s commitment to engage with local students continues as a priority in helping them turn their what if, into what is.
