Registration Errors and Registration Holds

Registration Status - Students are assigned a registration date within their myBanner that provides access to advanced registration. The registration statuses are typically placed on a student's account the week before advanced registration begins.

Class Restriction

Enrollment in the course is restricted by class standing (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.). Current attempted hours are included in the calculation of student standing for prerequisites.

Students must complete the following number of credit hours or request a MAJ registration override through myBanner. 

Freshman 0-24 credits

Sophomore 25-54 credits

Junior 55-84 credits

Senior 85+ credits

Closed Class- No check box is present to add the class to the student's schedule

The class has reached enrollment capacity.

Choose another open section, or students may submit a request for a closed class or CAP registration override through myBanner.

Co-requisite Required

Co-requisite courses must be taken at the same time.

Students must add the first class to the worksheet. Then find the second class, and add it to the worksheet.  Finally, go to the Add/Drop Classes screen and click on "Submit Changes."

Duplicate Registration

Students who register for the same course in multiple future semesters will be dropped from the class(es) for all subsequent terms.

Student should register for the selected course once during future semesters. 

Field of Study Restriction

Only students in a specific program of student are permitted to register for this course.  

Students may submit a request for a MAJ registration override through myBanner.

Level Restriction

Only students at a specific degree level (undergraduate, graduate or doctorate) are permitted to register for this course.

Students may submit a request for a MAJ registration override through myBanner.

Linked Course Required

Certain lectures, labs, and/or discussions are linked together. When registering for a class that requires multiple pieces you must register for all the linked pieces simultaneously.

Click on the section's CRN to determine which additional pieces are needed. If you perform an incomplete registration for a linked course and register for a lab only, your lab will be dropped.  Click here for instructions on how to swap lab sections without having to drop your lecture or discussion section.

Major Restriction

Only students in certain majors are allowed to register for this course.

Students should declare their major, or submit a request for a MAJ registration override through myBanner.

Maximum Hours Exceeded

The student has attempted to register for more than 20 credit hours in a given semester.

Students must submit a Drop/Add form with their advisor's signature, along with a statement explaining why they need to take a higher credit load. Requests should be submitted to the Student Academic Success Center (STU 200) for a decision.

Prerequisite Not Met

The student has not satisfied the prerequisite(s).

Students may submit a request for a PRE registration override through myBanner.

Prior Approval Required

Enrollment requires special approval.

Students may submit a request for a PMT registration override through myBanner.

Repeat Count Exceeds 0

The student is attempting to register for a course they have already repeated once.

The student must acquire the signatures of their advisor and the chair of the department that teaches the course on the Repeat Limit Approval form and turn it in to the Registrar's Office.

Student Attribute Restriction

Only students in a specific group are permitted to take this course. 

Students may submit a request for an ATT registration override through myBanner.

Time Conflict with (CRN)

The student is attempting to register for two courses that have meeting times that overlap.

The student must acquire the signatures of both professors on a Drop/Add form and turn it in to the Registrar's Office.

What Action to Take

Advisor Approval Hold

Meet with your advisor to develop a class schedule. Obtain the signature of your advisor on a Registration Drop/Add Form and submit it to a Student Assistance Center to have the hold lifted.  Click here for a short video on how to locate your advisor in Banner. 

Financial Hold

Contact Student Accounts at (616) 331-2209 to resolve your account balance and have the hold lifted.
