Department of Justice Issues Guidance on Federal Antidiscrimination Laws
Published August 20, 2025
On July 30, 2025, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued guidance to recipients of federal funding that provides additional information clarifying DOJ's views on the application of federal antidiscrimination laws to certain types of programs and initiatives. In this guidance, DOJ both highlights specific legal risks associated with "initiatives that involve discrimination based on protected characteristics and provides non-binding best practices to help entities avoid the risk of violations." We are reviewing this guidance to determine any potential impacts on our policies, programs, and practices here at Grand Valley State University and remain committed to complying with applicable law.
