The day must be requested in Workday and approved in advance, following standard university procedures for requesting time off (i.e. vacation).
Faculty do not accrue vacation hours in Workday, so a request to take a Laker Day must be made directly with the unit head. If the faculty member is going to be absent from class, then Shared Governance policy 3.04A describes what is expected in terms of holding class and arranging substitutes.
Yes, "Laker Day, My Way" is available on a calendar year schedule and will reload on January 1. Since this benefit is effective at the beginning of this fiscal year (July 1), you will have 6-months to use your 2025 Laker Day.
No, your Laker Day is meant to be taken within the calendar year. You will get a new balance at the beginning of the calendar year on January 1.
Your Laker Day is defined by whatever your scheduled hours are for that day. Work with your supervisor to ensure you are not working/requesting more off than your scheduled time.
No. This one paid day off, whatever that day looks like for you, must be taken in one instance and cannot be paid out in increments.
