Description
Invasive plants are one of the leading causes of habitat loss. Help us protect wildlife habitats and native plant communities by removing invasive spotted knapweed! Learn about why this plant is a problem and how to remove it effectively. Volunteers will work alongside a staff person to hand pull invasive plants on uneven terrain in a grassland. All equipment and training will be provided, including safety information about ticks and poison ivy. No experience necessary! Where to meet: Lodge parking area (towards the end of the long entrance drive) What to wear: Closed toe shoes are required. We recommend long pants (to protect against poison ivy and ticks), lightweight clothing, and a hat or sunglasses. What to bring: Water bottle and sunscreen or bug spray (if desired) Weather policy: If severe weather occurs, this event will be canceled Bio: Carly Garvelink is the Volunteer Program Supervisor for Ottawa County Parks & Recreation. She has served in this role for nearly six years, connecting individuals and groups with meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout Ottawa County Parks. Carly earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology with a specialization in Environmental Studies from Michigan State University. Outside of work, she is a mom of two who enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends, reading, and recharging outdoors.
