HTM Minors

Hospitality and Tourism Management Minor

Students in other majors may minor in Hospitality and Tourism Management by completing a minimum of six (6) courses in HTM, including HTM 101-Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism, totaling a minimum of 21 credits, with advisor approval. Students minoring in HTM are encouraged to consider including at least one field experience course in their program. Interested students must meet with the HTM Department Chair, or Assistant Chair, to establish a specific plan in advance.

HTM 101 – Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism (4 cr)
Plus, 17 additional credits in any HTM courses (these courses must be pre-approved).

Cannabis Operations Management Minor

The cannabis operations management minor will prepare students to work in the retail cannabis industry and ancillary fields. Those interested in nonprofit and/or governmental intersections with cannabis operations, and efforts at achieving social equity, will gain a wider, holistic understanding of this developing industry and hospitality infusions. Students in HTM and other majors may minor in Cannabis Operations Management by completing a total of 20 credits as outlined below. Students should consider at least one field experience course in their minor program. Interested students must meet with the HTM Department Chair, or Assistant Chair, to establish a specific plan in advance.

Students are required to complete ALL the following:

____HTM 317 Responsible Cannabis Operations (3cr)

____HTM 242 Cannabis Regulations & Tourism (3cr)

____HTM 290 Field Experience I (2cr)

____HTM 117 Customer Satisfaction in Hospitality (1cr)

___CJ 101/SW 150/ PNH 209/SOC 252 (3 credits each; choose 1)

___HTM 390 Field Experience II OR HTM 490 Senior Internship (2cr)

Choose ONE of the following:

____PNH 220 Organizing to Make a Difference (3cr)

____HTM 361 Hospitality Law & Legislation (3cr)

____CJ 315 Principles of Security (3cr)

____CJ 492 Social Justice Issues in the US CJ System (3cr)

 

Adventure Tourism Management Minor

Students in HTM and other majors may minor in Adventure Tourism Management by completing a total of 21 credits as outlined below. Students should consider at least one field experience course in their minor program. Interested students must meet with the HTM Department Chair, or Assistant Chair, to establish a specific plan in advance.

Students must complete ALL of the following Core courses (12 credits):

HTM 235 – Tourism & Recreation Management (3 cr)
HTM 268 – Adventure Tourism (3 cr)
HTM 368 – Geotourism (3 cr)
NRM 420 – Wildland Recreation Management (3 cr)

Ice Climbing

Choose two (2) Fitness, Skill and Activity (FIT) courses from the following:

FIT 119 - Outdoor Skills/Snowshoeing (1 cr)
FIT 128 - Rock Climbing (1 cr)
FIT 153 - Sailing-Large Boat (1 cr)
Additional course options may be available with HTM Department Chair/Assistant Chair approval.

Choose a minimum of seven (7) credits of additional electives from the group:

HTM 202 – International Tourism (3 cr)
HTM 290/HTM 390/HTM 490 – Adventure Tourism Based Field Experience (2 cr)*
*Students minoring in adventure tourism management are encouraged to consider including at least one field experience course in their program.  MGT, NRM, MOV appropriate adventure based internships may be included (with HTM Internship Coordinator approval).
NRM 300 – Ethical Recreation: Leave No Trace (1 cr)
MGT 330 – Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (3 cr)
MGT 345 – Team Building (3 cr)
MGT 364 – Service Operations Management (3 cr)
