Community Reports
Community Reports provide a transparent and comprehensive snapshot of how our Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) community performs across key areas such as academics, membership, and engagement. These reports are more than just numbers—they reflect our commitment to fostering a values-based community grounded in excellence, accountability, and belonging.
Each semester, the Office of Student Life collects and publishes data submitted by chapter leaders to provide:
Academic Performance Insights: We proudly track and celebrate the academic achievements of our chapters. Grade data helps identify trends in educational success, encourages scholastic support between peers, and recognizes chapters exceeding institutional expectations.
Membership & Community Trends: From total membership numbers to retention insights, our reports illustrate FSL's impact on the broader GVSU student body. These trends guide how we support sustainable growth and inclusive recruitment practices.
Organizational Transparency: We believe in fostering trust with our campus and external partners. Sharing accurate, FERPA-compliant data ensures that students, families, alumni, and headquarters staff stay informed about the health of our community.
Data-Informed Support: Community Reports help our staff and councils make decisions grounded in reality. Whether we’re identifying a need for academic support or recognizing chapters for their excellence, these reports keep our leadership rooted in meaningful assessment.
Assessment
Greek Standards & Assessment Program (GSAP)
The Greek Standards & Assessment Program (GSAP) is Grand Valley’s signature tool for assessing, supporting, and celebrating the success of fraternity and sorority chapters. Rooted in our shared values, GSAP helps chapters grow, promotes a well-rounded experience for members, and ensures we’re upholding high standards across our community.
Why GSAP Matters
The GSAP isn't just a checklist. It's a way to communicate the value of fraternity and sorority life to everyone: students, families, alumni, advisors, faculty, staff, and national organizations. It highlights the powerful, positive impact of fraternal organizations and provides a roadmap for continuous improvement.
Each year, chapters build a GSAP portfolio that showcases their work, and meet with their Chapter Coach to review progress, identify growth areas, and set SMART goals that guide chapter operations and officer transitions.
What GSAP Assesses
The GSAP evaluates chapter performance in eight key areas:
- Academics
- Chapter Operations
- Community Involvement
- Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI)
- New Member Experience
- Recruitment & Retention
- Service & Philanthropy
- Wellbeing
Each area includes action items that chapters complete annually to demonstrate their commitment to their values and to the campus community.
Recognition & Chapter Status
After each calendar year, GSAP portfolios are scored, and chapters receive one of the following distinctions based on their overall performance:
This status is awarded to the top-performing chapters as defined by the GSAP. Gold Status indicates that the chapter has excelled in various areas, such as academics, chapter management, community involvement, health and wellness, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, member development, recruitment and retention, and service and philanthropy. The chapters awarded Gold Status demonstrate exemplary standards and achievements, making them among the highest-ranked chapters within the program.
This status is typically awarded to chapters that have performed well but may not have achieved the same level of excellence as Gold Status chapters. These chapters demonstrate above-average performance across the assessment criteria, showing a strong commitment to the fraternity or sorority's values and objectives. Silver Status chapters are recognized for their accomplishments and are considered among the top-performing chapters in the program.
This status is awarded to chapters that have met the minimum requirements of the assessment program but may have room for improvement in certain areas. While these chapters may not have performed as strongly as Gold or Silver Status chapters, they still meet the standards set by the assessment program and are functioning satisfactorily. Bronze Status indicates that the chapter is making progress but may need to focus on enhancing certain aspects of their operations to reach higher levels of performance.
This status is given to chapters that have completed the GSAP but are generally performing below expectations within the areas being assessed. Chapters that fall into this status are required to meet more regularly with their Chapter Coach to ensure future success on the GSAP. Mandatory programming and the creation of a GSAP Restoration Plan may be required for groups in this status.
This status is reserved for chapters that do not fulfill the requirements of GSAP reporting as outlined in the Fraternity & Sorority Life Relationship Agreement. Furthermore, failure to comply with GSAP reporting requirements may lead to the termination of the Relationship Agreement between GVSU and the organization.
