Laker students, alumni, faculty & staff share their Global GVSU Story.
I was a study abroad student summer 1997 to China and 1997-1998 Japan. Having the experience in East Asia changed my life. After graduation, I got a job through my connections in the GVSU study abroad program in China and began working in Shanghai. I worked there for two years before beginning to work for a start-up. From there I moved to Europe, first to Stockholm, and then to Oxford University, where I took a year to get an MSc, then I moved to London where I got another MA in Chinese Art after which I worked in the Chinese art market in London. Three years ago, I moved to Switzerland but now I am back in Oxford for my daughter's schooling. I don't think I would have ever left the US had I not participated in the study abroad program at GVSU. They were both fantastic trips, providing me with the tools to navigate the world. Unfortunately, I was a study abroad student before there were digital cameras so I do not have any pictures of my trips. Dr. Peimin Ni may have some pictures in the group pictures from summer 1997.
