Laker students, alumni, faculty & staff share their Global GVSU Story.
Day one of freshman year, I began to fall in love with other cultures. I lived in the International House and was pursuing a degree in International Relations and Spanish. My love only grew as I worked in the I-House as a peer mentor my second year, meeting people from around the world and befriending them, making their experience as welcoming as possible. Then, it was my turn to go. Junior year, I spent one semester in Sevilla, studying wine, flamenco, and the vibrancy of Spanish culture. I traveled all around Europe during those months and did not want to come home. But when I did, I was able to better relate to my new international friends coming to GVSU as I could understand the excitement of this time of their lives. Senior year, I worked at PIC as the Assistant Outreach Coordinator and had a blast encouraging GVSU students to study abroad, ensuring them that it was the best choice they could ever make!
Living and working with international students during my four years at GVSU truly enhanced my college experience, but studying abroad enhanced my life. I know now that I cannot finish my time on this earth without traveling and I want to make the most of it. There are so many beautiful places to see and amazing people to meet. I am so grateful for this opportunity because of what I learned about myself and the world, and for the impact that GVSU's study abroad continues to have on me."
