English Professor Selected as 2023 Digital Humanities Fellow
Dr. S. Johnson, Associate Professor of English, won a Digital Humanities Fellowship in the Digital Humanities Scholars Program housed at the University of Illinois. The Mellon-supported scholarship is in partnership between the Black Books Interactive Project (BBIP), directed by Dr. Maryemma Graham, University of Kansas, and Afro Publishing Without Walls (AFRO PWW2), directed by Dr. marilyn thomas-houston, University of Illinois. The initiative provides hands-on practice for scholars who wonder about the implications of translating traditional research on the black diaspora into digital formats.
“I’m thrilled,” Professor Johnson noted. “Without a doubt, this intellectual work will open the space for me to think more deeply about intersections between the digital realm and literature–particularly, Black American literature. And, of course, I can’t wait to see how the skills I’ll learn will spill into the classroom. Anticipating the impending synergy is exciting.”
